Dal Tadka with Jeera Rice

This is a simple and humble meal. Whenever I am not feeling well or crave for comfort food, I make this. In Andhra we eat this with mango pickle. Oh my god... it is divine combination. Pair made in heaven. So here I am sharing my version of Dal tadka with Jeera rice.



For Dal Tadka:
Ingredients:

Split Red Gram/Tuvar dal – 1 cup(soaked)
Onion – 1 medium
Tomato Puree – 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Whole red chilli – 2
Corriander powder – 1 tbsp
Cumin powder – 1 tbsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
Garam masala – 1 tsp
Ghee – 2 tbsp
Salt to taste

For Jeera Rice

Cooked Rice – 1 Cup
Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
Green chillies – 2
Salt per taste
Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
Oil – 2 tbsp

Method




In a pan or kadhai add ghee. Add mustard seeds,
 cumin seeds,whole red chillies and onions
Cook Tuvar dal in the cooker.













Now add coriander powder, cumin powder and
red chilli powder
 
Add tomato puree and cook till ghee separates
 in the pan. 

Add dal, salt and garam masala and mix well.


Cook Tuvar dal in a pressure cooker.For 1 cup of dal, I add about 3 – 3 ½ cups of water and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.
In a pan or kadhai add ghee. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, whole red chillies and onions. Let it sauté for 2 minutes on a medium flame. Now add coriander powder, cumin powder and red chilli powder. Let it sauté again for couple of minutes. Add tomato puree and cook till ghee separates in the pan. Now add the cooked dal. Add salt per taste and add garam masala. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with Jeera Rice.

In  kadhai add oil, cumin seeds, slit green chillies
and let it splutter
Now add cooked rice and corriander leaves
and serve hot
             


In a pan add oil on a medium flame. Add cumin seeds, slit green chillies, coriander leaves and cooked rice. Mix well. Serve hot.
