Dahi Bhalle

I love chaat. I love it even more when it is home made. My MIL makes amazing Dahi Bhalle’s. So I took her recipe and gave it my twist. The outcome was amazing. It is finger licking good….

Ingredients:
For bhalle:
Urad Dal – 1 cup
Moong dal – ½ cup
Masoor dal – ½ cup
Green Chilli – 1
Salt to taste
Oil for frying

For the dahi:
Yogurt – 1 cups
Dry roasted Cumin powder – 1 tsp
Rock Salt – 1 tsp
Sugar – 1 tsp

Garnishing:
Sweet Tamarind Chutney
Dry Roasted Cumin Powder
Red Chilli Powder
Method:
Grind dal to a smooth paste with green chilli and salt

Drop the batter in tablespoonfuls into oil and prepare vadas or  bhallas
. Put bhallas in sufficient quantity of hot water. Leave for two minutes.
Squeeze between your palms to drain out water.

. Place bhallas on a plate and cover with yogurt. Add tamarind chutney. Sprinkle red chilli powder and roasted cumin powder.

Wash and soak dal in three cups of cold water overnight. Drain off excess water the following day. Grind dal to a smooth paste with green chilli and salt. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Drop batter in tablespoonfuls in it and fry until light golden. Drain onto an absorbent paper. These are now called bhallas or vadas. Put bhallas in sufficient quantity of hot water. Leave for two minutes. Squeeze between your palms to drain out water.
Whisk yogurt well with rock salt (kala namak), sugar, cumin powder. Place bhallas on a plate and cover with yogurt. Add tamarind chutney. Sprinkle red chilli powder and roasted cumin powder. Serve immediately.
