I love chaat. I love it even more when it is home made.
My MIL makes amazing Dahi Bhalle’s. So I took her recipe and gave it my twist.
The outcome was amazing. It is finger licking good….
Ingredients:
For bhalle:
Urad Dal – 1 cup
Moong dal – ½ cup
Masoor dal – ½ cup
Green Chilli – 1
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
For the dahi:
For the dahi:
Yogurt – 1 cups
Dry roasted Cumin powder – 1 tsp
Rock Salt – 1 tsp
Sugar – 1 tsp
Garnishing:
Sweet
Tamarind Chutney
Dry
Roasted Cumin Powder
Red
Chilli Powder
Method:
Grind dal to a smooth paste with green chilli and salt
Drop the batter in tablespoonfuls into oil and prepare vadas or bhallas |
. Put bhallas in sufficient quantity of hot water. Leave for two minutes. |
Squeeze between your palms to drain out water. |
. Place bhallas on a plate and cover with yogurt. Add tamarind chutney. Sprinkle red chilli powder and roasted cumin
powder.

Wash and soak dal in three cups of cold water overnight. Drain
off excess water the following day. Grind dal to a smooth paste with green
chilli and salt. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Drop batter in tablespoonfuls
in it and fry until light golden. Drain onto an absorbent paper. These are now
called bhallas or vadas. Put bhallas in sufficient quantity of hot water. Leave
for two minutes. Squeeze between your palms to drain out water.
Whisk yogurt
well with rock salt (kala namak), sugar, cumin powder. Place bhallas on a plate
and cover with yogurt. Add tamarind chutney. Sprinkle red
chilli powder and roasted cumin powder. Serve immediately.
